October 1, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

NOTICE: For our future monthly meetings in 2022, we continue to meet in person at the Nipomo Library as well as Zoom. Please join us in person if you can at the Nipomo Library; we’d love to see you!

We have switched to an RSVP system for our Zoom meetings. If you’re NOT currently a member of Coastal Dunes CWC, and you’d like to attend our next meeting via Zoom, use our Contact Form to request the Zoom link (put “Zoom link” in the Subject line.)

Our next meeting is Saturday, October 1, 2022, in person at the Nipomo Library and via Zoom, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Speakers and topic are below.

Speakers: Sara Roahen
Topic: Writing the Tough Stuff: techniques and tips for those times when your own storytelling gets you down.

Sara Roahen writes, edits, coaches, teaches, and otherwise dabbles in storytelling—for fun and for hire.

Her memoir, Gumbo Tales: Finding My Place at the New Orleans Table, was the chosen reading for the One Book One New Orleans reading initiative in 2009, and it received the Louisiana Library Association’s Louisiana Literary Award in 2010. Sara co-edited and contributed writing to The Southern Foodways Alliance Community Cookbook. Her work has additionally appeared in Saveur, Bon Appetit, Tin House, Oxford American, and Garden & Gun magazines, and in/on a host of other magazines, newspapers, books, and websites.

Sara honed her listening, documenting, backroad-driving, and boudin-ball-eating skills while conducting extensive fieldwork for the Southern Foodways Alliance’s extraordinary oral history initiative.

She holds a copyediting certificate from UCSD and currently teaches life-story writing in San Luis Obispo, California, through Cuesta College’s Emeritus program. Sara finds great joy in helping others express themselves; to that end, she offers private editing and manuscript coaching services.

Come join us this October.
