Napa Valley Writers will host Tessa Smith McGovern, an author, writing teacher, and book reviewer.

Readers use book reviews to make their purchasing decisions. So, you need reviews to sell books but first, you have to sell books to get reviews. What’s an author to do? Follow the 7 steps discussed in this talk (worksheet included) and hey presto, problem solved! And once you know what to do, it can even be fun!

Tessa is an author, writing teacher, and book reviewer. She writes speculative fiction and short stories.

Tessa has been a writing teacher for 22 years and has taught for the Writing Institute, Sarah Lawrence College, NY, since 2011. Her upcoming class there, ‘How to Link Your Short Stories and Memoirs into a Collection’, begins Feb 8, 2022. She teaches two free Zoom writing sprints with prompts/Q&A on Tuesdays at 12 noon PM EST and Weds at 7 PM EST. In her teaching, she invites writers to apply the principles of loving-kindness meditation to their writing process which results in better memory, focus, and productivity.

Tessa is an award-winning writer whose linked short story collection, LONDON ROAD: LINKED STORIES, received a ‘Featured’ review from Kirkus, is an Amazon best-seller, and a gold medal winner in the 2012 eLit Awards. Her non-fiction book, COCKTAILS FOR BOOK LOVERS (Sourcebooks), is also an Amazon best-seller. Her many publication credits include the Connecticut Review and Equinox, a UK poetry journal. She’s currently writing a contemporary fantasy novel inspired by British mythology and pursuing her MFA in Writing at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is founder and editor of eChook Digital Publishing. eChook won a silver medal in the 2012 eLit Awards and its stories have been read by thousands of readers in 100+ countries.
