Napa Valley Writers Present
Bright Lights, Prairie Dust
Napa Valley Writers will feature Karen Grassle, the author of Bright Lights, Prairie Dust: Reflections on Life, Loss, and Love from Little House’s Ma, published in 2021. She will share some of the choices she made to create an environment for her characters, and one that her readers could embrace. Bright Lights, Prairie Dust celebrates and honors womanhood in all its complexity. This winning story fills out a life that is so much more than “Little House on the Prairie.” She will share an insider look at how she learned life lessons from the roller coaster life of an actress, overcoming career obstacles, rejection, and a family challenged by alcoholism and depression. Her life parallels the growth of women’s consciousness in the culture.
Karen Grassle is best known for her role of “Ma” on Little House on the Prairie. Her life is that of a thoroughly modern woman and she shares her experience of the sexual revolution, the woman’s movement, and finding balance between her dedication to work and her longing for a rich personal life. Karen has appeared on Broadway and stages throughout the U.S. and Canada.
