Central Coast (In-Person): So You Want to Write a Children’s Book?
June 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
So You Want to Write a Children’s Book?
Join us as we look at the reasons why writing for young people can be both fulfilling and rewarding. Long-time member and presenter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) author Sonia Antaki will share information about the current market for children’s books, as well as SCBWI’s recommendations on how to prepare and publicize both traditional and self-published work.
Sonia Antaki has received multiple Moonbeam, American BookFest, Nautilus, and International Book honors and awards. Before developing a passion for middle grade and young adult fiction, she had several careers–as professional singer, financial analyst, Tony-nominated Broadway producer, and advocate for arts and Native traditions. Of Swiss, British and Syro-Lebanese heritage, she was born in Egypt and came to the U.S. as a child. A non-Native, she worked with Lakota elders and advisors to make her middle-grade fiction trilogy, Red Dove, as historically accurate and culturally appropriate as possible and she’s happy to share the knowledge she has gleaned in the world of books for young people.
