SUMMARY:Central Coast (In-Person): Turning Memories into Art
DESCRIPTION:Turning Memories into Art \nOne of my favorite sayings – and I may have made this up\, or stolen it from someone else\, but I believe it to be true: “Memoir is truth\, with art around the edges.” Join us as we explore how to bring memories to vivid life on the page by blending reportage\, personal history\, and literary techniques of fiction. Everyone has a story inside them and in this presentation you will learn how to tap into yours. I will share secrets and tips from my memoir writing journey\, and give you the opportunity to try your hand at memoir scenework with a flash-writing prompt. \nMeredith May is the author of The Honey Bus\, the best-selling memoir about her beekeeping childhood with her grandfather in Big Sur; and Loving Edie: How A Dog Afraid of Everything Taught Me To Be Brave. Her books have been sold in eighteen countries and translated into eleven languages. She spent sixteen years at the San Francisco Chronicle\, where her narrative reporting won the PEN USA Literary Award for Journalism and was short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize. Her first illustrated children’s book\, My Hive\, will be published in 2024.
