SUMMARY:East Sierra (In-Person): There Are Moms Way Worse Than You
DESCRIPTION:Glenn Boozan – Emmy-nominated author of “There Are Moms Way Worse Than You “ \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmmy- and WGA-nominated comedy writer Glenn Boozan will give the Thursday\, June 2 Ridge Writers program starting at 6:30 in the meeting room of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church\, 633 W. Las Flores. Masks required. Public invited\, no admission fee.\n\n\nWhat to expect: Being a mom is hard – and being a perfect mother is an impossible\, unachievable standard. And yet\, every mom has felt a creeping sense of guilt and shame. Now\, Glenn Boozan offers the antidote to “mom guilt”: “There Are Moms Way Worse Than You: Irrefutable Proof That You Are Indeed a Fantastic Parent\,” a deceptively playfully illustrated romp through the outlandishly terrible parenting practices of the animal kingdom. The book went viral on publication. \n\nGlenn’s credits include “Conan\,” “Comedy Central’s Lights Out with David Spade\,” “Sarah Silverman’s I Love You\, America” on Hulu\, and TruTV’s “Adam Ruins Everything.”\n\n\nA book signing follows.\n\n\nEarlier the same day\, she will chat informally with participants of “Read the Book\, Meet the Author” at Mac’s International Restaurant (see story elsewhere in this issue).\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there. Bring your friends!

SUMMARY:Napa (In-Person): Choosing Your Publishing Option
DESCRIPTION:Choosing Your Publishing Option\n \n\n\nNapa Valley Writers will host North Counties literary agent D. Patrick Miller\, who will describe the options for publication now available to working authors. \nFrom finding an agent\, to procuring a publisher on your own\, to publishing independently in print books\, e-books\, and/or various online platforms—the requirements\, advantages\, and disadvantages of each approach will be reviewed. Patrick will also discuss the importance of clarifying your motivations and identifying your most likely audience\, as these considerations determine the most sensible and likely-to-succeed approach to publication. He will share how his own experiences as an author for major New York publishers motivated him to become an independent publisher in 1997\, and how he branched out from there into becoming an editor\, publishing consultant\, and part-time literary agent. \nBefore founding Fearless Books in 1997 to continue the publication of his writing\, D. PATRICK MILLER sold three solo projects to major publishers: Viking\, Henry Holt\, and Dell. He is now the author of over a dozen print titles and 25+ e-books\, including these titles in general circulation: Understanding A Course in Miracles (Second Edition\, Fearless Books\, 2021); How to Be Spiritual Without Being Religious (Hampton Roads\, 2018); The Forgiveness Book (Hampton Roads\, 2017); and  Living with Miracles (Tarcher/Penguin\, 2011). \nAs a collaborator\, ghostwriter\, or principal editor\, Miller has helped other authors prepare manuscripts for such publishers as Viking\, Doubleday\, Warner\, Crown\, Simon & Schuster\, Hay House\, New World Library\, Hampton Roads\, and John Wiley & Sons. His poetry has been published in a number of magazines and several anthologies. Miller provides professional manuscript consultations to literary agents and publishers as well as published and unpublished authors working in fiction and nonfiction. He also helps many writers publish independently through the Fearless Assisted Publishing program and provides professional representation to selected authors. \nWebsite/Social Media: \nwww.fearlessbooks.com\nwww.dpatrickmiller.com\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Fearless-Books-Literary-Services-171116826270  \n$5 Fee for members\, $7 for non-members. SUMMARY:Central Coast (In-Person): So You Want to Write a Children's Book?
DESCRIPTION:So You Want to Write a Children’s Book? \nJoin us as we look at the reasons why writing for young people can be both fulfilling and rewarding. Long-time member and presenter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) author Sonia Antaki will share information about the current market for children’s books\, as well as SCBWI’s recommendations on how to prepare and publicize both traditional and self-published work. \nSonia Antaki has received multiple Moonbeam\, American BookFest\, Nautilus\, and International Book honors and awards. Before developing a passion for middle grade and young adult fiction\, she had several careers–as professional singer\, financial analyst\, Tony-nominated Broadway producer\, and advocate for arts and Native traditions. Of Swiss\, British and Syro-Lebanese heritage\, she was born in Egypt and came to the U.S. as a child. A non-Native\, she worked with Lakota elders and advisors to make her middle-grade fiction trilogy\, Red Dove\, as historically accurate and culturally appropriate as possible and she’s happy to share the knowledge she has gleaned in the world of books for young people.
