Speaker and topic are below. \n\nSpeaker: Viviana Hall\nTopic: Poems of Love \nApril is National Poetry Month\, reminding us that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters in our lives. \nOur speaker will be our very own Viviana Hall\, who will do her presentation and a poetry reading from her recently published book\, Poems of Love\, which has received acclaim. Pacific Book Review’s Alyssa Avina had this to say\, “In author Viviana Hall’s Poems of Love\, the poet translates the language of love through a bilingual poetry book. A native of Argentina\, the writer translates her poetry from Spanish into English\, conveying love in the form of compassion\, a joy for the love that life brings us\, and the transformative nature of love as a whole.” \nViviana Hall is an American writer\, journalist\, and clinical social worker. Her first book “Miedos” was published in her native Buenos Aires in 1977. Thereafter\, she came to New York as a press correspondent\, wherein 1982 a new edition of “Miedos” and her second book “Poemas del Cielo y la Tierra” were published. \nAs a journalist\, she produced\, wrote\, and hosted various television documentaries\, variety\, and public service programs in New York. Her media work earned her numerous distinguished awards. Before starting to write fiction at age 74\, he published over 100 professional and academic articles.\nThere are many obstacles to becoming a mystery writer at age 74. Ron’s “strategy” was to ignore them. The result so far has been 12 stories about a baby boomer detective couple—the sleuthing silvers—at the website www.thesleuthingsilvers.com. They have over 3400 followers on Facebook and have attracted the interest of two young screenwriters\, who are writing a pilot to be submitted to streaming services. Ron has been interviewed on NBC radio\, has been featured in the local press and has been a judge for the Shamus Award—given by the Private Eye Writers of America—for the best short story. Speaker and topic are below. \n\nSpeaker: Laura Colbert\nTopic: Writing from A Woman’s Perspective \nLaura grew up in Minocqua and Waupaca\, Wisconsin. She attended UW-Madison and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology. Later on\, she received a master’s in Educational Leadership through Cardinal Stritch and a master’s in Experiential Education from UW-LaCrosse. \nAfter graduating from UW-Madison\, Laura began her career in education. She taught Physical Education in Aylesbury\, England\, then worked as an Activities Director in Fargo\, ND for individuals with special needs. Later\, she was a Physical Education teacher and Dean of Students at Madison West High School\, and then was Waupaca Middle School Principal from 2017-2021. \nShe concurrently served in the Army National Guard from March 2001-2009 as a Military Police Officer. Laura deployed to Baghdad\, Iraq from March 2003 to July 2004. \nShe is now a leadership consultant and professional speaker with Strategic Leaders Academy. Her focus is helping newly promoted leaders thrive in their new positions and master their added responsibilities and challenges. She also works part-time as an Executive Director for the Waupaca Arts Hub. \nLaura is the author of “How to Pee Standing Up/Sirens: An alarming memoir of combat and coming back home.” She has appeared on PBS\, Veteran Radio\, NPR\, and a variety of podcasts. Her presentation will include many aspects of book cover design including: Purpose of a Book Cover\, Importance of a Book Cover\, Book Covers for E-Book\, Paperback\, Hardback\, And Audio\, Genre Expectations and Differences\, Process\, and more. \nSheri McGathy has worked in prepress in a graphic design department as a Graphic Arts Coordinator/Copy Editor for just under 45 years. Now\, her plan is to write and craft book covers. She is hoping to see the cover design business grow now that she has more time. \nSheri’s favorite part of creating covers\, especially pre-mades\, is that it gives her a chance to tell a story with the images and on pre-mades\, try out new techniques or ideas. Her hope is to craft something that hints at what lies beyond those cover flaps. \nSheri was born a buckeye\, but was uprooted in 1971 and replanted amongst Kansas sunflowers\, tornadoes\, and college football. It’s a good life. Shari is married with one son\, who is now an adult with three children\, of which she considers the lights of her life.
