  • September 29, 2018. CWC Northern California Leadership Conference (Members only) Check with the Branch NorCal representative.
  • October 1, 2018. CWC Tri-Valley Branch in collaboration with the Pleasanton Library. “Open Mic Night with My Friends.” 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Free and open to the public. No reservations needed. Pleasanton Public Library, 400 Old Bernal Avenue. Readers sign up from 6:00-6:15 p.m. For more information, please contact Jordan Bernal.
  • October 6, 2018. The High Desert Branch of CWC presents the 7th Annual HOWL AT THE MOON Conference. 9:30 am – 4:00 pm. Guest presenter Marilyn Atlas will present “Dating Your Character,” a fun but effective approach to character development for writers.   • October 6, 2018. San Fernando Valley Branch presents, “When Good Writers Turn Bad in Bed.” 1-3 p.m. Internationally respected editor and author Jonathan Beckman will give a lecture about how to avoid writing crude, tasteless, redundant and perfunctory sex scenes. Examples of the best and worst sex scene writing will be discussed at this PG rated presentation. Join us at the Motion Picture & TV Fund, 23388 Mulholland Drive, Woodland Hills, California, Saban Community Room. Free for Members, $5 suggested donation for guests.
  • October 15-20, 2018. California Writers Week was established in 2003 by the California Writers Club. The California State Assembly officially declared the third week in October each year as California Writers Week, and it is also endorsed by the California Library Association.   • November 1, 2018. National Novel Writing Month.
    Ready to draft your novel in a month? Track your progress, get pep talks and support and meet fellow writers onine and in person. Go to nanowrimo.org.
  • November 3, 2018. Central Coast Writers sponsors a workshop: “Ten Key Scenes That Frame Up Your Novel” with writing coach C.S. Lakin. Monterey Peninsula College, Sam Karas Room. Registration starts at 8:30; workshop from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Open to the public. $40.00 CWC members and $60.00 non-members. 
  • October 27, 2018. Elk Grove Writers Conference, “Writers Helping Writers.” The Holiday Inn, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. $50 includes breakfast and a box lunch.  9175 W. Stockton Boulevard, Elk Grove CA 95758. Several members from various NorCal CWC branches are planning to attend this conference. Register at egwg.org/registration.
  • February 23 & 24, 2019. Dickens Fest in Riverside. 400 Main Street, Riverside CA 92501. Celebrating the life and works of Charles Dickens and his impact on society, this Victorian themed festival has food, gifts, costumes and decor, actors, musicians and literary masters gathering for your enjoyment. CWC SoCal sponsors a booth, members can rest while working a shift or just stop by and say hello. More at dickensfest.com.
